Kevin Durant passed Michael Jordan for fifth place on the NBA's all-time career scoring list on Saturday night, March 21, 2026, during the Houston Rockets' 123-122 win over the Miami Heat at Toyota Center.
Durant hit two corner 3-pointers in the fourth quarter to surpass Jordan's total of 32,292 points. The second shot, a 3-pointer from the right corner off a Reed Sheppard pass, gave Durant 32,294 career points and pushed him past Jordan on the list. Durant finished the game with 27 points, 3 rebounds, and 3 assists. Amen Thompson tipped in a missed Durant shot at the buzzer to secure the win.
Durant, 37, is in his 19th NBA season and his first with Houston after a trade from the Phoenix Suns last summer. He sat out the entire 2019-20 season due to an Achilles injury. He has also passed Wilt Chamberlain (31,419 points) and Dirk Nowitzki (31,560 points) on the all-time list this season. The all-time scoring list now reads: LeBron James (43,241), Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Karl Malone, Kobe Bryant (33,643), and Durant (32,294). Bryant's total is next — Durant trails him by approximately 1,350 points.
Durant is a 16-time All-Star, four-time scoring champion, two-time NBA Finals MVP, and one-time league MVP (2013-14). He has two NBA championships and 11 All-NBA selections. He is one of two active players in the all-time top five, alongside LeBron James. Among players with at least 20,000 career points, Durant's true shooting percentage of .621 ranks second all-time.
Durant cited Jordan as a career-long influence. "MJ is in a world of his own and somebody I look up to and respect, who basically shaped the game for me," he said.
