LeBron James became the NBA's all-time leader in regular-season games played on Saturday, March 21, 2026, when he took the court for the Los Angeles Lakers against the Orlando Magic. It was the 1,612th game of his career, breaking a tie with Hall of Famer Robert Parish, who had held the record since 1996.
James had tied Parish's mark of 1,611 games two days earlier during the Lakers' 134-126 win over the Miami Heat on Thursday, in which he posted 19 points, 15 rebounds, and 10 assists — his second triple-double of the season. That game came on the second night of a back-to-back, after James flew overnight from Houston, arriving at his Miami hotel around 5 a.m., and spent the day receiving treatment on a left foot injury before deciding to play.
Parish, who held the record for nearly 30 years, was supportive of James breaking it. "If anyone is deserving of breaking the Iron Man record, I would say LeBron James is," Parish told ESPN. "Because he takes such good care of himself."
James, 41, is in his 23rd NBA season. He is the all-time NBA leader in points scored, games played, minutes played, field goals made, and field goals attempted, among other categories. He also holds records for the most seasons played (23), the most All-Star selections (22), and the most All-NBA team selections (21). Parish's previous mark was set on April 6, 1996, when he passed Kareem Abdul-Jabbar's total of 1,560 games. James entered Thursday 310 games ahead of Russell Westbrook, the most active games played among current players.
