LeBron James is dealing with chronic arthritis in his left foot and continuing to manage sciatica in his lower back, Eurohoops reported, citing ESPN's Dave McMenamin from James's first training camp with the Philadelphia 76ers. James is 41 and entering his 24th NBA season.
The sciatica is not new — it sidelined James for the first month of last season with the Los Angeles Lakers. Having both conditions confirmed publicly now, at the start of a new chapter in Philadelphia, adds weight to questions about how much the 76ers can lean on him across an 82-game season.
His daily routine
James's routine at the 76ers' practice facility starts around 7:45 a.m., well before team practice, when he meets longtime trainer Mike Mancias for stretching, activation work, and treatment aimed at stabilizing his joints and back. Head coach Nick Nurse plans to share the offensive workload so James isn't carrying the full system, and James has said he intends to adjust his style under Nurse to stay healthy for the playoffs.
The schedule ahead
Philadelphia opens its preseason against the New York Knicks at Xfinity Mobile Arena, with three more exhibitions against the Boston Celtics and Brooklyn Nets before the rotation is finalized. The 76ers then open the 2026-27 regular season on the road against the defending-champion Knicks at Madison Square Garden on October 20.
James signed with Philadelphia over the summer on a two-year, $8 million contract, later telling Steve Nash on the "Mind the Game" podcast that his friendship with Tyrese Maxey and a desire to help Joel Embiid win his first championship were deciding factors. He'll share the roster with Embiid, Maxey, and Jaylen Brown for the first time this season.
