Kylian Mbappe won the 2026 World Cup Golden Boot with 10 goals, finishing two clear of Lionel Messi, ESPN reported. He is the first player to win the award at two separate World Cups, having taken it in 2022 on a hat-trick against Argentina in that year's final.
Mbappe built the total across the group and knockout stages — two goals each against Senegal, Iraq and Sweden, a penalty against Paraguay, one against Morocco — then sealed it with two more in France's 6-4 loss to England in Saturday's third-place match, a 10-goal game that was the highest-scoring at a World Cup since 1982. England led 4-0 at halftime on goals from Declan Rice, Ezri Konsa and a Bukayo Saka brace; Mbappe and Bradley Barcola pulled France within one, Saka completed his hat-trick from the penalty spot in the 87th minute, and Ousmane Dembele and Jude Bellingham traded stoppage-time goals to close out the 6-4 final score.
Mbappe's two goals against England also made him the World Cup's all-time leading scorer, passing Messi's mark of 20 to reach 22 career World Cup goals in 22 appearances — overtaking a record Germany's Miroslav Klose had held at 16 since 2014.
