The Baltimore Ravens hired Los Angeles Chargers defensive coordinator Jesse Minter as their head coach Thursday, replacing John Harbaugh after 18 seasons.
Minter, 42, signed a five-year contract to become the fourth head coach in Ravens history and the youngest in franchise history. He replaces Harbaugh, who was fired after the Ravens missed the playoffs following a Week 18 loss to Pittsburgh. Minter spent the past two seasons as Chargers defensive coordinator, leading the NFL's best scoring defense in 2024 (17.7 points per game) and the fifth-ranked defense in total yards in 2025 (285.2 yards per game).
He previously worked for Baltimore from 2017-2020 as a defensive assistant and defensive backs coach under Harbaugh. Minter then served as defensive coordinator at Vanderbilt (2021) before joining Jim Harbaugh at Michigan, where he coordinated the defense for the 2024 national championship team. He followed Jim Harbaugh to the Chargers in 2024. Minter becomes the first Ravens head coach with a defensive background. Previous coaches Ted Marchibroda and Brian Billick were offensive coordinators, while Harbaugh was a special teams coordinator. The Ravens won 86 games since drafting quarterback Lamar Jackson in 2018, third-most in the NFL over that span, but managed only three playoff victories and never reached a Super Bowl under Harbaugh with Jackson.
