What the details reveal
The material changes go deeper than a fabric swap. The mesh upper is replaced entirely by cowhide leather, giving the shoe a weight and texture that reads more luxury goods than basketball heritage. The patent leather mudguard — the signature design element Tinker Hatfield introduced in 1995 — now runs tonal, matching the upper in either all-black (IV7639-001) or all-white (IV7639-100), and extends its treatment to the midsole: patent leather wraps the foam instead of leaving it exposed. Rope laces replace the standard flat variety. "HOMME PLUS" branding sits on the tongue where the Jumpman usually lives.
Why the restraint is the point
Rei Kawakubo's approach was not to add to the Air Jordan 11 but to strip it back to material and proportion. There are no graphic overlays, no deconstructed panels, no asymmetric cuts — just a monochrome leather shoe that happens to share the AJ11's exact silhouette.
