Vikings WR Justin Jefferson Suffers Hamstring Strain

Minnesota Vikings wide receiver Justin Jefferson has been diagnosed with a mild left hamstring strain during the team's training camp practice on Thursday, July 25, 2025. Vikings head coach Kevin O'Connell announced the injury on Friday, describing it as "very mild" and confirming that Jefferson will be held out of practice and re-evaluated next week. The injury occurred during Thursday's training camp session when Jefferson experienced what he described as "a little bit of tightness" in his legs, prompting him to shut down practice early as a precautionary measure. O'Connell stated that the team will be "very cautious" with the injury and emphasized that he sees "no concerns in regards to the [season] opener" and has "no worry at all that we'll be able to get Justin ready to go for the regular season."
This marks the second hamstring injury for Jefferson in recent years, though it affects the opposite leg from his previous injury. During the 2023 season, Jefferson missed seven games due to a right hamstring strain, sitting out from Week 10 through Week 12 before returning in Week 14. Despite missing those games, Jefferson still managed to record 68 catches for 1,074 yards in just 10 contests that season. The current injury to his left hamstring comes at a critical time as Jefferson works to build chemistry with second-year quarterback J.J. McCarthy, who is expected to take over as the Vikings' starting quarterback in 2025. Jefferson is coming off a productive 2024 season where he recorded 1,533 receiving yards and 10 touchdowns, leading to a four-year, $140 million contract extension with $110 million guaranteed that was signed in 2024.
