Golden State Warriors forward Jimmy Butler sustained a torn right ACL during Monday night's 135-112 victory over the Miami Heat, ending his 2025-26 season.
The injury occurred at the 7:41 mark of the third quarter when Butler jumped to catch a pass in the paint and collided with Heat guard Davion Mitchell. Butler's right knee twisted upon landing, causing him to fall to the court. He remained down for several minutes before teammates helped him to the locker room, unable to put weight on his right leg.
An MRI confirmed the ACL tear, according to ESPN's Shams Charania.
Butler, 36, had scored 17 points in 21 minutes before exiting against his former team. This season, he has averaged 20.0 points, 5.6 rebounds and 4.9 assists across 38 games for the Warriors.
The veteran was acquired from Miami in February 2025 and signed a two-year, $111 million extension with Golden State. The injury comes as the Warriors (25-19) had won 12 of their previous 16 games.
Butler is owed $54.1 million this season and $56.8 million in 2026-27, the final year of his contract. The Warriors face the February 5 trade deadline with their roster plans now significantly altered.
