The Air Jordan 13 Retro Chicago drops tomorrow, March 14, for $215 (414571-102), and it is worth thinking about what "Chicago" means as a colorway designation in 2026. Jordan Brand has applied the Chicago label to the 1, the 4, and now the 13 — each time with the same cultural argument: this is where Michael Jordan played, and that geography carries enough weight to anchor a release nine years after his last title. The argument keeps working. The question is why.
The 13 is not the most beloved silhouette in the Jordan catalog. That honor belongs to the 1, the 3, the 11, maybe the 4, depending on who you ask. But the 13 has a specific kind of credibility: it was the shoe MJ wore when he ended things in Utah in 1998. The last shot, the last ring, the last game of the dynasty — the 13 was on his feet for all of it.
What makes this particular retro interesting is the gap. The last time this version of the 13 Chicago was released was 2017 — nine years ago. That is long enough for the shoe to have moved through the full cycle: hyped release, secondary market spike, gradual cooling, nostalgia window, retro announcement. Anyone who bought in 2017 has either worn theirs out or is sitting on a pair that still looks clean. The new cohort of buyers who were teenagers in 2017 is now in their mid-twenties with disposable income. Jordan Brand times these gaps with intent.
At $215, it is also priced at a premium that the Jordan 13 has not historically commanded. That number reflects both inflation and Jordan Brand's confidence that the demand is there. The rest of this week's sneaker calendar is strong enough that Chicago will have to earn its attention — but it will. The 13 Chicago always does.
Drops March 14 at SNKRS and select Jordan Brand retailers. $215. Style code: 414571-102. The silhouette's other OG-era colorway, "Flint," gets its own retro August 1 for $215.
