Isley, the daughter of Ernie Isley of the Isley Brothers, has built a catalogue of slow-moving, textured R&B over the past several years, and When The City Sleeps continues in that direction — nocturnal, understated, and structured around her vocal phrasing rather than production dynamics. NPR Music named it one of the top picks of New Music Friday.
Isley has a following built largely through word of mouth within the R&B and neo-soul communities, and this album arrives without major label infrastructure behind it. It is streaming now on all major platforms.
