Four full-length releases landed this Friday, each from a different corner of the genre: BigXthaPlug's return to straight rap, Sampa the Great's Zamrock-rooted third album, Dominic Fike's tour-recorded "living album," and Young Nudy's latest Atlanta trap tape. A fifth, long-rumored project — Ken Carson and Destroy Lonely's joint tape 00Twinz — carries today's date but hadn't surfaced on streaming as of publication.

This week's lineup: LITE, Location, Wallflower, Who Dat Is.

BigXthaPlug — Better Over Time

Better Over Time is BigXthaPlug's fourth solo album and his first rap-focused project since 2024's platinum Take Care, following last year's country-leaning detour on I Hope You're Happy. The Dallas rapper built the 18-track record around 600 Entertainment and UnitedMasters, with the Belly Gang Kushington collaboration "LITE" as the lead single and guest spots from GloRilla, Fridayy, Lil Yachty, Babyface Ray and Ava Max.

Sampa the Great — Nu Zamrock

Nu Zamrock is Sampa the Great's third album and her first since 2022's As Above, So Below. The Zambian-Australian rapper built it around a family discovery — that her blood uncle, George "Groovy Joe" Kunda, was a founding member of the Zambian psychedelic rock band WITCH — and fused that 1970s Zamrock lineage with hip-hop, poetry and soul. The album was preceded by three singles: "Can't Hold Us" (feat. Mwanjé), "Simon Says" and "Location."

Dominic Fike — How to Quit Smoking

How to Quit Smoking is Dominic Fike's third studio album, following 2023's Sunburn, and the one he calls a "living album" — songs written, performed and recorded in real time during stops on his Comedy Tragedy Parody tour. It arrives on Columbia after three singles: "Wallflower," "Small Town" and "Pangea," the last of which helped push the earlier single "Babydoll" into the Hot 100's top 10 eight years after its original release. Kenny Mason's BULLDAWG, which carried a Fike feature, is recent evidence of how often he turns up on other people's records between his own albums.

Young Nudy — Just Doin Me

Just Doin Me is the latest tape from the East Atlanta trap king, built with his longtime producer COUPE and carrying one guest verse, from 21 Savage on "Spinnin." It's Nudy's first full project since 2024's Pretty Girls Love Nudy run, and keeps him on the same unhurried, mixtape-a-year pace he's held since Dr. EV4L.

Singles & tracks worth pulling

  • Ken Carson & Destroy Lonely — "00Twinz": the joint tape the two Opium artists announced back in July is dated for today, but hadn't appeared on Apple Music or Spotify as of publication — a common same-day slip for Carti's camp.
  • BigXthaPlug & GloRilla — "FAF": the hardest posse-cut moment on Better Over Time, and a reminder the two have chemistry beyond "Cracked Out."
  • Young Nudy & 21 Savage — "Spinnin": the one outside feature on Just Doin Me, and the clearest single candidate off the tape.

The week in context

Four very different rap-adjacent albums shared a release date without sharing a label, a scene or really a genre — Dallas trap, Zambian rock-rap, tour-diary indie and Atlanta mixtape rap all landed on the same Friday, a reminder of how wide "new music Friday" has to stretch now. It followed last week's John Legend/Pharrell and Anderson .Paak/Cordae pairing, continuing a run of crowded Fridays through the back half of October.
