Anthropic expects its initial public offering to match or exceed the $75 billion SpaceX raised, the largest IPO on record, Bloomberg reported on August 20, citing people familiar with the plans. SpaceX's deal reached $86.2 billion once the overallotment option was exercised.

The company is expected to file its registration statement publicly as soon as the end of August. Anthropic confidentially submitted a draft Form S-1 to the Securities and Exchange Commission on June 1, saying at the time that the filing "gives us the option to go public after the SEC completes its review." A confidential submission starts the SEC review before the prospectus becomes public; the public filing is the step that discloses financials, share count, and price range to investors.

Anthropic reported preliminary second-quarter revenue of $11.5 billion, against $787 million in the same quarter of 2025, a more than fourteen-fold increase. A $30 billion Series G in February 2026 valued the company at $380 billion, and a $65 billion Series H in May 2026 valued it at $965 billion.

Anthropic has been spending against that revenue through long-dated compute contracts, including a $10 billion, six-year deal with Volta for a Norway data center, and it has started an in-house team to design custom silicon for Claude.

PYMNTS notes that the discussions are continuing and that the size of the IPO and other details could still change. Rival OpenAI confidentially filed for its own IPO in June.
