With the Knicks down one, Victor Wembanyama turned the ball over, and Jalen Brunson hit the go-ahead free throw with 9.5 seconds left. Wembanyama got a look to win it and missed a jumper at the buzzer. He finished with 29 points after a quiet first half; De'Aaron Fox added 20 for San Antonio.
A road start with almost no precedent
New York is the third team in NBA history to win the first two games of the Finals on the road, joining the 1993 Chicago Bulls and the 1995 Houston Rockets — both of which went on to win the title. The Knicks stole both games in San Antonio without their best shooting nights, which is the more alarming part for the Spurs.
What it means for the series
The series shifts to Madison Square Garden for Game 3 on June 8 and Game 4 on June 10. San Antonio now has to win at least one in New York to bring the series back home.
