Nike Kobe 9 EM Protro "WNBA" Drops May 8 for $190

The Kobe family officially weighs in on the league's 30th anniversary, dropping the same Friday as the four-shoe Nike WNBA pack — a signature-without-a-current-signee statement.

Nike Kobe 9 EM Protro "WNBA" Drops May 8 for $190

The Nike Kobe 9 EM Protro "WNBA" releases Friday, May 8, 2026 at 10 a.m. ET on SNKRS for $190, style code IM6119-800. It lands the same day Nike pushes its four-shoe WNBA 30th Anniversary pack, but it sits on its own line: this is the Kobe family showing up for the W's anniversary in a signature that has no current-WNBA-signee attached to it.

The shoe

Orange Frost engineered mesh upper with Brilliant Orange detailing across the Swooshes and Kobe logos. Ice Peach heel counter centers the build, Summit White midsole and outsole carry the foundation, and the legendary fingerprint outsole pattern is intact under refined React foam tooling. Cable lacing, unisex sizing, the same Kobe 9 EM Low silhouette the Mamba family has been running heavy through the Protro relaunch.

Why it sits apart from the pack

Nike could have buried this inside the WNBA 30th release. Instead it gets its own slot — and the read is intentional. The Sabrina 3, A'Two, Book 2, and GT Cut 4 are all current-roster signature plays. The Kobe 9 EM Protro WNBA is the legacy line stepping in to mark the anniversary, which is a different kind of statement: the league is now important enough that the Kobe estate wants its own seat at the table. Kobe was the WNBA's most visible male advocate of his generation. The Mamba family has spent the entire Protro era using product to make those connections explicit. The Mambacita 3 drop last week made the point at the personal level. This one makes it at the league level.

One Friday, five Nike WNBA-coded signature shoes on shelf. That has never happened before.
