Salehe Bembury x PUMA Velum 2 NITRO Drops August 31 for $160

Salehe Bembury releases the PUMA Velum 2 NITRO on August 31 through his own site at $160, in Terracotta and Alloy. It is a new shape in the Velum line rather than a colorway of the original, with a wider PUMA launch following in early September.

Salehe Bembury releases the PUMA Velum 2 NITRO on August 31 through his own site at $160 a pair, with a wider launch through PUMA and select retailers in the first days of September. Sole Retriever lists that second date as September 2; Sneaker Bar Detroit lists September 3. Both agree on the August 31 early drop and the $160 price.

The pack is two pairs. Terracotta (style code 409221-03) is a tonal coral-orange build with a red mesh underlay and a matching midsole. Alloy (409221-08) runs white and grey with a pale yellow midsole and a black-on-grey "PUMA / SALEHE BEMBURY®" block at the heel. Sole Retriever's own product listing files 409221-03 under "pink red," which is worth knowing if you are searching inventory by name rather than by code.

This is a new shoe, not a new colorway

The distinction matters for anyone who bought the first one. The Velum 2 is a second silhouette in the line rather than a re-color of the shoe Bembury launched earlier this year — Uristocrat covered that original when the Velum "Magenta Gleam" released on February 7. The 2 keeps the mesh-and-foam formula and the NITROFOAM midsole, and changes the shape around it.

Bembury's signature is still doing the structural work. The fingerprint texture that runs through his PUMA work appears on the tongue and is embossed across the midsole sidewall, and the upper is divided by the curved, wave-edged overlay panels that separate one color block from the next. On the Terracotta pair the perforations sit inside those wave shapes rather than in a conventional toe-box grid.

Where it sits in the partnership

Ahead of this pack, Highsnobiety published a first look at the Velum 2 in an all-pink colorway that is not part of the August 31 release, so a third pair exists and has not been dated.

Uristocrat covered Mike Ashley's investment in PUMA in March.
