It is the first orbital launch by a privately developed European launch vehicle from continental Europe, and it came 524 days after Spectrum's first flight crashed shortly after liftoff in March 2025. Spectrum is a two-stage vehicle burning liquid oxygen and propane, with nine first-stage engines, rated to 1,000 kg to low Earth orbit and 700 kg to sun-synchronous orbit. The Munich company is the first of the contenders under the European Space Agency's European Launcher Challenge to reach orbit, ahead of Rocket Factory Augsburg and PLD Space, according to Aviation Week.
