Anthropic signed a $9.1 billion, 20-year agreement to take roughly 191 megawatts of computing capacity at Riot Platforms' Rockdale, Texas campus, CNBC reported. The first 96 megawatts is scheduled to come online in December 2027, with another 95 megawatts by June 2028. The contract runs through June 2048 and carries two optional five-year extensions that would raise its value to roughly $16.1 billion. This is the second nine- or ten-figure compute lease Anthropic has signed this summer, after its $10 billion, six-year deal with Volta for a Norway data center. The company is also building an in-house custom silicon team.
