Nike has been running an interesting experiment lately — removing the one symbol most synonymous with its identity. The Zoom Vomero 5 Swooshless "Hyper Royal" is out today.
Introduced in 2007 as a performance running shoe, the Vomero 5 has since found its footing in the lifestyle market on the strength of its chunky midsole and layered upper construction — the same technical-luxe language that made the Salomon XT-6 and New Balance 1906R staples of the last three years. The Hyper Royal colorway translates that silhouette into a saturated cobalt blue that reads more fashion than function.
Nike has been quietly introducing Swoosh-free versions of key silhouettes — the Air Max 1, the Dunk, and now the Vomero 5 — as a deliberate move toward a cleaner, brand-agnostic aesthetic that appeals to consumers who value the sneaker as an object rather than as a logo placement.
