Jordan Brand is bringing back the shoe Michael Jordan wore to space. On September 19, the Air Jordan 9 OG “Space Jam” returns for $215 in its original White, Black and True Red, its first retail run in a decade and its sixth release overall, Sneaker Files reported. Jordan Brand opened the month with the Air Jordan 13 “Wings,” which dropped August 6 at $215 with a wear-away denim upper tied to the brand’s Wings education program.
The build is period-correct: white leather on the upper, black nubuck across the mudguard and collar, and True Red on the Jumpman, the tongue’s “Air Jordan” script, and the “23” and globe on the heel. Style code HV4794-106 carries the OG designation, and pairs release at nike.com, the SNKRS app and select Jordan Brand retailers, per JustFreshKicks.
The Air Jordan 9 occupies a strange place in the line. It arrived in late 1993, while Jordan was retired and playing minor-league baseball, making it the first signature model he never wore in an NBA game during its original run. The globe and multilingual heel motif were the design answer to that absence — a shoe built around Jordan’s global reach rather than his on-court season. The 1996 Space Jam film gave the White/Black/True Red pair its lasting identity, and this drop is timed to the movie’s 30th anniversary.
The read: a sixth retro of a 33-year-old silhouette is Jordan Brand leaning on anniversary math, and the AJ9 is a clean test of whether that still works — a model with no championship-game story trading almost entirely on pop-culture nostalgia and OG-accurate specs. It slots into a summer of heritage-first Jordan releases, from the Air Jordan 3 “True Blue” OG returning July 18 to the brand’s Free The Youth collaboration on the vaulted Air Jordan 16 — a catalog increasingly mined for the exact originals collectors remember.
The "Space Jam" 9 shares its release date with another Jordan Brand launch — the Awake NY x Air Jordan 6 "Playful Pink," out August 29, at $230.
It is not the only Air Jordan 9 releasing this stretch: the Air Jordan 9 Low "What The Kilroy" arrives August 14 for $180, merging all six colorways of the 2012 Kilroy Pack into one shoe.
