New York Knicks captain Jalen Brunson called a players-only meeting after Monday's 114-97 loss to the Dallas Mavericks at Madison Square Garden, according to ESPN.
Brunson's message to teammates, according to sources, was that the Knicks needed to find answers for their recent struggles among themselves rather than look to the coaching staff for solutions. The loss marked the team's ninth defeat in 11 games. The Knicks started the season 23-9 and won the NBA Cup in December but have fallen to 25-18.
The team's offense has ranked in the bottom five in the league during January. Fans at Madison Square Garden booed the home team after the Knicks trailed 75-45 at halftime Monday. The Mavericks scored 44 points in the second quarter. Brunson told reporters after the game that the team knows what it needs to do. He finished with 22 points and six assists on 9-of-22 shooting. Karl-Anthony Towns recorded 22 points and 18 rebounds. The Knicks are currently third in the Eastern Conference. They face the Brooklyn Nets on Wednesday.
