Dolphins Hire Jon-Eric Sullivan as General Manager

Jon-Eric Sullivan spent 22 years building playoff rosters in Green Bay — now he takes over a Dolphins franchise in reset mode, with a head coach search as his first order of business.

Dolphins Hire Jon-Eric Sullivan as General Manager

The Miami Dolphins hired Jon-Eric Sullivan as their new General Manager on January 9, 2026. Sullivan served as the Green Bay Packers' vice president of player personnel since 2022.

Sullivan has worked for the Packers organization since 2004, starting as a scouting intern before moving through various roles including college scout, director of college scouting, and co-director of player personnel. He worked with Packers General Manager Brian Gutekunst to build a team that reached the playoffs six of the past seven seasons.

He replaces Chris Grier, who was fired on October 31, 2024, after serving as the Dolphins' GM since 2016. Sullivan was one of four finalists for the position, competing against interim GM Champ Kelly, Los Angeles Chargers assistant GM Chad Alexander, and San Francisco 49ers director of scouting and football operations Joshua Williams.

Sullivan's first major task will be hiring a new head coach. The Dolphins fired Mike McDaniel on January 8, 2026, after four seasons, including a 7-10 record in 2025.

Sullivan is the son of Jerry Sullivan, who spent 40 years coaching in college and the NFL, including a stint as the Dolphins' wide receivers coach in 2004.
